Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal on Thursday met the Secretary of the UK State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelly here for a formal launch of negotiations for free trade agreements.
Both parties will hold deliberations for a series of interested trading opportunities, benefit India and Britain.
“Meeting with the Secretary of the UK State for International Trade @Annietrev for the launch of the negotiations of Indian-English free trade agreements,” said Goyal in a tweet.
This agreement is intended to liberalize the norms and reduce customs for increasing trade and services, in addition to promoting investment.
Indian exports to England established at USD 8.15 billion in 2020-21, while imports were collected at USD 4.95 billion. The main export of India to England includes ready-made clothing and textiles, gems and jewelry, engineering goods, petroleum products, transportation equipment, spices, pharmacies and sea products.

Imports from Britain include precious stones and semi-precious, ore and metal scraps, engineering items, chemicals and machines. In the service sector, England is the largest market in Europe for IT India services.
