Pears was established in 1807 under the leadership of Andrew Pears in London, United Kingdom, under the ownership of A. & F. Pears. The soap was created using natural oils and glycerine and was the first soap that was transparent to be manufactured in mass quantities and sold in the world. Pears were introduced to India in 1902 and set the scene for a relationship with India that continues until today.
In 1917 A. & F. Pears was purchased from Lever Brothers, a British company which later was transformed into Unilever. Pears became a top soap company under Unilever. The production of Pears soaps continued to be produced in Isleworth until the 1960s, in the 1960s when Unilever changed the production of Pears towards Port Sunlight in northwest England.
In 2003 Unilever changed the manufacture of Pears products to India and also consolidated it under its affiliate Hindustan Unilever Limited.
