Tata Motors on Wednesday shares a gloomy update for the third-quarter sales of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which continues to be limited by lack of semiconuster.
However, Tata Motors said JLR sales increased from the second quarter.
“Requests underlying JLR products remain strong and the company has proactively manage the supply of semiconductors to maximize the production of higher margins,” Tata Motors said in archiving.
Retail sales for the quarter ended December 31, 2021 were 80,126 vehicles, down 13.6% (12,600 units) from the previous September quarter and 37.6% (48,300 units) from the same quarter last year.
Retail is lower in all regions compared to the previous quarter, including China (-6.9%), Europe (-6.8%), North America (-11.8%), UK (-24.3%), and Overseas (-25.4%)
“Looking forward, the lack of chip remains dynamic and difficult to estimate, however, we expect supply to continue to improve at the fiscal year Q4 which ended March 31, 2022,” Tata Motors said.
Apart from the impact of semiconductor deficiency on production and sales, the company said she continued to see strong demand for its products with global retail orders at a record level.
The total order book has grown to more than 154,000 units, up around 30,000 orders from the previous quarter for the new Range Rover, while demand for Land Rover defender remains strong with around 36,000 orders.
On Wednesday, Tata Motors shares rose 1% to close on ₹ 506.30 on NSE.
